The Tenth Commandment, “Thou shall not covet your neighbors’ goods” complements the Seventh, and goes to the roots, to the heart. It forbids avarice, greed and envy, but it also encourages poverty of spirit, charity and humility. I explain what avarice and envy are, its origins, and how to oppose them. I talk about some examples in Scripture (like that of Simon the Magician, and the poor widow) and some in the Lord of the Rings (like that of Boromir and Gollum). Finally, I present the great example of venerable Fr. Emil Kapaun, a US. Army Chaplain who died as a POW during the Korean War.
